Education across Africa is evolving — and AI is leading the way toward inclusion. On May 6, 2026, BlueCrest University Liberia, in collaboration with the University of Florida, hosted a guest lecture titled: “AI for Inclusive Education in Africa: Expanding Access Through Intelligent Systems.”
The session was led by Dr. Emmanuel J. Dorley, Assistant Professor at the University of Florida, whose research centers on leveraging artificial intelligence to design personalized learning systems that enhance student engagement and outcomes. In his presentation, Dr. Dorley demonstrated how AI can reshape education across Africa—making learning more adaptive, accessible, and inclusive, especially in resource-constrained environments.
With over 100 participants attending both in person and online, the session saw high engagement. The audience included Semester 7 BSc IT and MSc IT students who discussed virtual agents, intelligent tutoring systems, and the future of AI in education. Participants contributed through questions and academic exchange, creating an intellectually stimulating atmosphere.
The session was coordinated by HOD IT Dr. Leo John Baptist, facilitating active dialogue throughout.
Key focus areas included:
- Inclusive education through AI
- Intelligent tutoring systems
- Low-resource language technologies
- Practical AI solutions tailored to African contexts
Beyond the lecture itself, an official memorandum of understanding (MOU) was recently signed between the University of Florida and BlueCrest University. This agreement establishes a formal framework to explore research and capacity building specifically aligned with Dr. Dorley’s work in building machine learning systems for Liberian languages. The academic visit served to both launch this research collaboration and kick-start project operations on the ground with BlueCrest faculty and students.
The impact of this partnership also extends to national development frameworks. During the visit, Dr. Dorley met with the President of Liberia to discuss the administration’s recent executive order aimed at digitizing government infrastructure and operations. The meeting focused on how artificial intelligence can support these public sector modernization goals, and how the newly established MOU between the University of Florida and BlueCrest University serves as a foundational step toward executing that broader digital vision for the country.
