Renée Fleming is one of the most acclaimed singers of our time, performing on the stages of the world’s greatest opera houses and concert halls. Honored with five Grammy® awards and the US National Medal of Arts, she has sung for momentous occasions from the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony to the Super Bowl. A Fulbrighter to Germany, Renée is a recipient of the Fulbright Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
In November, she starred in the world premiere staging of The Hours, a new opera based on the prize-winning novel and film, at the Metropolitan Opera. Renée won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Solo Album for Voice of Nature: the Anthropocene.
A leading advocate for research at the intersection of arts and health, as Artistic Advisor to the Kennedy Center, Renée helped launch the first ongoing collaboration between that institution and the NIH.

Award-winning Vietnamese-American pianist Quynh Nguyen was selected as one of the “19 young stars of tomorrow” by Musical America. Quynh has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Vietnam including Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and France, in notable concert venues such as Carnegie Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, McEvoy Auditorium, the Freer Gallery at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C., the Kaye Playhouse in New York, the Berlin Konzerthause, and the Opera House in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Dr. Nguyen is a graduate of The Juilliard School and Mannes College of Music and received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Graduate Center of City University of New York. Additionally, she is the recipient of several highly prestigious scholarships and awards, including the United States Presidential Academic Excellence Award, the American Prize, and the Fulbright Fellowship to study music with the late Yvonne Loriod Messiaen in Paris, France in 2004-2005.
Dr. Nguyen currently serves on the music faculty of the Music Department at Hunter College, City University of New York, and the International Keyboard Institute and Festival.

National Geographic Explorer and Fulbright alumna, Alyea Pierce uses poetry, spoken word performance, audio, and photography to examine oral storytelling and folklore traditions across the African diaspora. Alyea is a spoken word poet and researcher who recently contributed to National Geographic’s podcast series Into the Depths and has performed internationally from the United Kingdom to South Africa, as well as at numerous TEDx events. Alyea’s poetry has been published online and in print, including the Guardian, New York Daily News, Obsidian, and the Caribbean Writer to name a few.
For Alyea’s Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling project, she examines the revitalization of oral storytelling and folktale traditions in Trinidad and Tobago through present-day spoken word & rhythm poetry. While studying contemporary Afro-Trinidadian literature, Alyea documents the history and experiences of people, and explores the intricacies of Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival. She integrates photography, videography, and spoken word performance to create a manuscript of poetry and fictional short stories focusing on memory and migration
Alyea is an adjunct professor for the English department at Rutgers University’s School of Communication & Information.

Trio Expressivo – Jazz
John Osment received his degrees in piano and jazz studies from the University of Maryland and is currently teaching jazz piano at American University, George Washington University, as well as his alma mater, University of Maryland. He can be heard on recordings by Buck Hill, Davey Yarborough, Al Williams, and Maryann Redmond.
John Previti grew up in the Southern Maryland-D.C. area, immersed in the region’s bubbling cauldron of musical styles: swing, country, jazz, R&B, soul, and the roots of rockabilly. John joined local phenom Danny Gatton’s Band which went on to make guitar history and stayed with Danny for the next eighteen years. John is now a veteran and first-call for the DC area’s top musical acts.
Nick Ruggieri studied at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, where he majored in Percussion Performance. While in Boston, he continued his studies with Fred Budha, the percussionist for the Boston Pops, as well as Alan Dawson, the famous Jazz drummer/instructor. Nick currently performs and teaches in the DC area, in a wide range of musical styles.

Will the Prize take place in-person or online?
Both! Both! The Prize takes place live in Washington, DC at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. We will transmit the program live around the globe for worldwide viewing online in real time. The Prize will also be available for registrants to view on demand.
What time does the Prize ceremony begin?
Doors will open at 5:30 PM. The evening will kick off with a reception followed by dinner. The Prize ceremony will begin streaming at 7:30PM EDT.
Will Drs. Fauci and Corbett appear in-person to accept their award?
Yes. They will both receive their award in-person in Washington, DC on April 19. The event will also be live streamed for those who are unable to physically attend.
What is the cost to attend the Prize
You can purchase an individual ticket or secure a table of 8 to make sure you are seated with your closest peers and colleagues.

Is there a limit to how many tickets I can purchase?
You can purchase up to four (4) individual tickets per registration. If you would like to purchase extra seats, please consider the Sponsor A Table option.

When will I receive my ticket?
You will not receive a physical ticket to this event. When you are registered through the online system, you (and your guests) will receive a confirmation email. Upon check-in at the venue, you will receive your table number and name tag to “enter” into our event space.
Individuals who are not on the list of pre-registered guests will not be admitted.
What is the last day I can register to attend?
The registration deadline is Friday, April 7, 2023.

Can I choose with whom I would like to sit?
You will be seated with your registered guest(s). If you will like to sit with an individual who is registered separately, please enter the name of the person you would like seated at your table in the RSVP Comments section of the form. We will try our best to accommodate seating requests.
To gaurantee seating with your closest friends, we recommend purchasing a table.
What do I need to bring to the event?
You will need to produce your COVID-19 Vaccination Card (a digital image is acceptable) and government-issued ID that matches the name on the vaccination card during check-in.
I can no longer attend the event. What are my options?
If you are no longer able to attend, you can cancel or transfer your registration by sending a written request to prize@fulbright.org. You may also choose to donate full or partial registration cost in support of the Fulbright Association’s mission to continue to extend the Fulbright tradition of education, advocacy, and service. On-site and live streamed content follows a schedule based on Eastern Daylight Time. The ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm EDT.
What are the technology requirements to connect to the live stream?
You need an internet connection and web or mobile browser. For the best viewing experience, we recommend you use Google Chrome. Internet Explorer is not recommended as some functions are not fully supported.

Since 1993, the Prize has recognized outstanding contributions to promoting peace through greater understanding among peoples, cultures, and nations. The Prize, which includes a US$50,000 award, is presented at a ceremony where the Laureate gives a major address.

To cancel a registration and request a refund, a written request must be sent to prize@fulbright.org. Please enter “Prize Refund” in the subject line.
*Exceptions to the cancellation refund policy outlined above will be considered on a case-by-case basis and decisions will be made within two weeks after the conclusion of the event.
