Emmanuel Dorley
Dr. Emmanuel Dorley is an Assistant Professor in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Department at the University of Florida. His research lab focuses on building Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents to support students in learning interpersonal and STEM skills. He has published over 25 technical papers in leading AI conferences and journals. He is senior personnel of the NSF AI INVITE Institute, which explores how AI can improve personalized STEM learning in schools across America.
Dr. Dorley is also the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of scLean Labs Inc., a custom software development company that helps small businesses leverage automation to improve business operations. His extensive experience spans globally recognized institutions like NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Intel Labs, and The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Japan, where he’s developed cutting-edge technologies in Robotics, Autonomous Vehicles, AI Hardware, and Intelligent Tutoring Systems.
A proud HBCU graduate, Dr. Dorley’s work and leadership have been recognized with a Computing Research Association’s Computing Innovation Fellowship, a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship, the USC Center for Engineering Diversity Leadership and Service Award, the USC Order of Arete award, and a recent induction into the New Brunswick High School Hall of Distinguished Alumni.
Dr. Dorley’s commitment to community and education is evident through his service on the boards of the Foundation For Women and The New Brunswick Education Foundation.
He is a proud member and has held various leadership roles in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the National Society of Black Engineers, the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the Historical Society of Liberia.
Dr. Dorley holds a Ph.D. and Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, where he was advised by Dr. Jonathan Gratch, a Master’s in Robotics from the University of Birmingham in England, and a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering from North Carolina A&T University where he graduated summa cum laude and became the university’s first Fulbright awardee.
