*No class the week of 9/21 or Monday, October 12 (Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day) — Week 4 meets once, for a single four-hour session, to make up the time.

The final academic output is a capstone project or a final paper (participant’s choice), followed by a certificate ceremony in Week 6.

This is a part-time, non-credit program. It does not qualify participants for F‑1 visa sponsorship.

By the End of the Program, You'll Be Able To:

  • Describe the history and worldwide reach of the Fulbright Program and of modern diplomacy.
  • Read today's international political landscape and explain the role cultural diplomacy plays in it.
  • Apply emotional-intelligence frameworks to cross-cultural professional relationships.
  • Stay adaptable and resilient in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) situations environments that shift quickly and rarely offer a clear playbook.
  • Build the human skills - communication, empathy, negotiation that carry across any workplace culture.
  • Explain how global leaders operate through crisis, diplomacy, and international law.
  • Analyze how leadership decisions shape diplomacy, conflict, and international cooperation.
  • Weigh the power and limits of the United Nations (UN), international law, and collective security including the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), its 17 shared global targets for people and the planet.
  • Leave with your own global-leadership plan, tied to a Fulbright or international career path.

BMCC Office of Diplomatic Engagement and Training

The Office of Diplomatic Engagement and Training builds capacity for diplomats, consular officials, and other professionals working across New York City - home to the largest diplomatic corps in the world, with more than 100 consulates and nearly 200 missions to the United Nations. Grounded in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Office designs academic and professional programming that connects BMCC students to the international-affairs community around them.
