Ashley Conard

Former Board Member

Ashley is a Computational Biology PhD candidate at Brown University, with advisors in Applied Math and Biology. As a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, she builds Bayesian multi-omics and time course models to study biological processes such as development. She is currently on the Board of Trustees for the Fulbright Association, and recently worked with the Department of Health in Rhode Island on a healthcare machine learning project.

During her Brown Master’s in Computer Science, she focused her research in modeling the progression of cancer. During that time, she served on the Board of Trustees for the Anita Borg Institute, the executive team for Princeton Citizen Scientists, and as Finance Chair for the International Society of Computational Biology Student Council. Before that in 2014-2015 she pursued the Fulbright Research Fellowship in Belgium at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, and developed a protein design algorithm utilizing game theory, machine learning, and parallel computing. She was awarded the opportunity to engage in science policy discussions at the EU Parliament, and was a US-NATO Affairs Delegate during the EU Seminar in International Diplomacy with the EU Commission.

Ashley has pioneered in related research projects at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Vanderbilt University, Eli Lilly and Company, and DePauw University. She has always been very involved in STEM outreach, including while at Google, the American Chemical Society, the Anita Borg Institute, and several schools in Indiana, Providence, Virginia, and Princeton. She holds a Computer Science and Biochemistry degree from DePauw University, where she founded the DePauw Campus Farm, inspired by her work on a pineapple plantation in Costa Rica. In addition, she co-founded the DePauw Robotics Club, and tutored in Biochemistry, French, Spanish, and Computer Science. She is very interested in science policy, and has pursued a short internship at the Indiana State House, as well as shadowed the European Union and NATO while in Belgium. She is most honored by her position as a US Ambassador for the D-Day Embarkation Commemoration in Normandy, France.
