Learning and Teaching in Germany – Larry Chasteen – Germany 2006

There were many great memories from my Fulbright experience to Munich, Germany in 2006. I had worked in Germany before but I learned much more by being part of a university faculty. I had great discussion with German professors about the German university system during our office hours. My wife and I were also “adopted” by the faculty so we had great social interactions with other faculty and their wives.

Another great memory was the Fulbright conference in Berlin. All German Fulbrights as well as those from neighboring countries were invited to Berlin for a 3 day conference. There were great tours of Berlin, as well as interactions and learning from the other Fulbrighters that were at the conference.

However, the most memorable was a side trip we took to Hallstatt, Austria – a great tourist town, as well as an important historical background. I am sure many of you are familiar with Rick Steves and his books and PBS shows about European travel. He just happened to be in Hallstatt that day and I was able to meet and talk with him.
