Wheeler, who lives in Flagstaff, Arizona, is a Fulbright alumna and a member of the Association’s Arizona Chapter. She was a Fulbright-Nehru English Teaching Assistant in India during the 2016-2017 academic year and taught English to over 300 New Delhi students in grades 6-8. She is currently an Education Abroad Adviser at Northern Arizona University.
“When contemplating designs for the 2018 Fulbright Association Conference, I wanted to incorporate both the conference theme and also acknowledge the culture of the conference site in Puebla, Mexico,” Wheeler shares. “The design is based on papel picado, paper cuttings traditionally used in Mexican folk art and displayed during events. This papel picado celebrates diversity and cultural understanding through cross-cultural communication and diplomacy, which encompass the Fulbright mission, through the symbol of one world, many voices—un mundo, muchas voces.”
The Fulbright Association looks forward to using this beautiful design to visually represent the theme of our 41st annual conference this fall when we convene in Puebla.
