My exhibit that the Danish Fulbright sponsored in Copenhagen was for the most part large panoramic oil paintings that I had painted in Aarhus, though also inspired by other places in Denmark.
When I saw the Copenhagen space I saw that besides the more expansive spaces where panoramic oil paintings were seen from some distance, there was a tiny wonderfully lit small room which would only accommodate smaller works to be seen up close. I had just introduced printmaking to my Danish students and showed them the example of a linocut that I made inspired by Danish students on bicycles. What a difference from our car culture. When I showed the students “Bicycle Lovers” they interpreted it in many interesting narratives so I decided to make 9 more with a similar theme and hang them with the landscapes.
