The War in Ukraine and How You Can Help: Stories of Support and Sponsorship

Tim Meloni’s experiences in Ukraine have convinced him that the Ukrainian people and culture deserve our acknowledgement and support during this terrible time for their country. In this webinar, he will share his personal stories and insights into Ukrainian culture and history that are often ignored in traditional historical narratives. His themes will include the repression of Ukrainian history and identity that have resulted from Russian and German imperialism, Ukraine’s current struggle for recognition, and the importance of Ukraine’s fate for the future of human rights and global democratic values.
Tim will be joined by another volunteer from North America for Ukraine to help explain the sponsorship process and experience. The two of them will welcome any questions relating to sponsorship or other ways to support Ukraine.

Tim Meloni is a returned Peace Corps volunteer who served in Ukraine from 2016 – 2018. He holds a masters degree in English literature from Arizona University and a masters degree in linguistics from Marshall University. During his time volunteering as a university professor in Ukraine, Tim developed a tremendous appreciation for the Ukrainian people and culture. At the outbreak of the war, Tim traveled to Poland for two weeks to assist friends and refugees seeking safety. He has helped to sponsor three friends to come to America under the Uniting for Ukraine Program, and he continues to recruit sponsors interested in hosting Ukrainian families. Currently, he is volunteering for North America for Ukraine to help match Ukrainians in need with generous American hosts.
