On Saturday, March 25, we invite all visiting Fulbright grantees and Fulbright Association members to join us for a walking tour of the Historic Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Germantown is known as “Freedom’s Backyard” due to its close proximity to Philadelphia and for its involvement in a number of freedom movements in our nation’s history including the War for Independence and the Underground Railroad. Our tour will be led by guides from the Historic Germantown organization and will include stops at the Germantown Mennonite Meetinghouse, Johnson House, and the Concord School House. Our tour will begin promptly at 1:00pm and we will meet at the Germantown Mennonite Meetinghouse (Address: 6133 Germantown Avenue6133 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144) and all tour stops are close to SEPTA 23 bus route and Chestnut Hill West Regional Rail Line (Tulpehocken Station). Street parking is widely available throughout the neighborhood. Guests are asked to coordinate their own transportation to and from the tour site.
