Who and When: International students and faculty in the U.S. on Fulbright Awards, Fulbright alumni, and other friends of Fulbright, please join the NC Chapter of the Fulbright Association on the North Carolina State University campus on Thursday, September 14th for a shared meal and concert by Cimarrón.

What: Pre-show sandwiches will be arranged at the Talley Student Union at 6pm. Following this shared meal, participants will attend the Cimarrón concert at 7:30. As described by NC State LIVE, “this Grammy-nominated six-piece joropo band from Columbia delivers an extraordinary blend of Andalusian, Indigenous and African roots music….The group blends soulful, untamed singing with percussive stomp dancing and rapid fire strings. Connect to something elemental through instruments like the harp, four stringed cuatro, guitar-like tiple and bandola, maracas, Afro-Peruvian cajón, Brazilian surdo, Afro Colombian tambora, ancient deer-skull whistles from the Orinoco River, the Amazonian Manguaré, and the powerful stomp dancing of Los Llanos (the Colombian and Venezuelan plains).”

Cost: The cost of food and 2/3 of the ticket price will be covered by the NC Chapter of the Fulbright Association. Participants are asked to pay one-third of the ticket cost or $10 by sending a Venmo deposit to the association’s treasurer.

RSVP: As tickets are limited for this event, you must RSVP and pay $10 by August 31, 2023. Please RSVP at: https://tinyurl.com/NCFAcimarron. The first 20 persons to RSVP will receive a confirmation email by Sept 4 with the room number for meeting in the Talley Student Union. If for any reason tickets are unavailable, your $10 deposit will be refunded.

Parking: We recommend parking (free after 5pm) in the Coliseum Deck at NC State (201 Jensen Dr, Raleigh, NC 27606) and walking a short distance to the Talley Student Union.
