This one-of-a-kind inter-cultural event brings together Fulbright alumni, grantees, scholars, local and international students, and communities from diverse backgrounds, as well as the Tamil student community in Pittsburgh, for an evening filled with conversation, learning, friendship, and celebration. Guests will explore the rich traditions of the multicultural Tamil community through a celebration of the Pongal festival. This event will feature young panelists, community leaders, traditional Tamil cuisine, games, and cultural activities. Guests will also learn to write their names and say simple phrases in the Tamil language. It aims to foster cultural exchange, intercultural belonging, and enjoyment for all attendees.

*Pongal* (பொங்கல்) is an indigenous Tamil harvest festival celebrating agriculture, while *Sangamam* (சங்கமம்) means “confluence” or “gathering” in Tamil.   Pongal is one of the more significant holidays on the Tamil calendar, as a secular multi-day harvest festival celebrated by Tamil people since time immemorial.
