Greater New York’s Fulbright Film Series: NY Premiere of Being BeBe & Reception

Featuring BeBe Zahara Benet, first winner of RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE,
legendary drag queen & artist celebrating Black queer excellence
Screening + Reception on Sunday, October 17

Fresh off its premiere at Tribeca, audience award win at Provincetown, and
centerpiece screening at Outfest LA, we’re also excited to announce the NewFest (NYC’s LGBTQ+ film festival) NYC screening of Jonathan Goodman Levitt’s latest producing project, Being BeBe — virtually October 15-26 and live at the SVA Theater on Sunday, October 17 at 6pm.

Directed by Emily Branham (and Produced by Branham, Marc Smolowitz, and Levitt), Being BeBe intimately charts 15 years in the life of Cameroonian drag performer Marshall Ngwa (drag queen BeBe Zahara Benet): A US immigrant who faced discrimination in Cameroon where being gay is an imprisonable offense, the first champion on reality tv phenomenon RuPaul’s Drag Race, and a leading artist celebrating Black queer excellence today.

Fulbright’s Greater NY chapter is co-sponsoring a reception nearby at 8pm, following the screening at 6pm, with star BeBe Zahara Benet and filmmakers in attendance.

When: Sunday, October 17: Screening at 6pm, Reception at 8pm.
Where: Screening at SVA Theater, 333 West 23rd St in Manhattan; Reception to follow at a location to be announced.
Tickets for the screening are available on the NewFest website ($18)
