Our speaker will be Chelsea Blackburn Cohen, Ph.D.
Scholars at Risk (SAR) is an international network of institutions and individuals whose mission is to protect scholars and promote academic freedom. SAR offers safety to scholars facing grave threats, so scholars’ ideas are not lost, and they can keep working until conditions improve and they can return to their home countries. SAR also provides advisory services for scholars and hosts, campaigns for scholars who are imprisoned or silenced in their home countries, monitoring of attacks on higher education communities worldwide, and leadership in deploying new tools and strategies for promoting academic freedom and improving respect for university values everywhere.
Chelsea Blackburn Cohen, Ph.D., is Senior Program Officer for North America with SAR. Chelsea is responsible for research related to SAR services for network member universities, colleges, and associations related to hosting threatened scholars and participation in advocacy activities relating to academic freedom promotion. Her research focuses on the globalization of higher education, academic freedom, academic capitalism, critical geography, qualitative data analysis, refugee resettlement, vocational education in China, and student career development.
