The Primacy of Primary Materials
For decades, artist/researcher Don Fels has investigated the global relationship of raw materials to people and place. In Puglia, Italia, where the ancient Pugliese towns are built entirely of limestone, Fels has taught himself the art of fresco painting. Using lime plaster and integrated pigments, he produces abstractions on wood panels.
He will be joining us live from Puglia.
Don Fels is active as a researching artist in Europe, Asia, and the US. A painter, sculptor, photographer, and writer, he began playing with art as a child, and has never stopped. Fels holds a BA from Wesleyan, an MA Ed from City University and also studied at the SF Art Institute and University of Washington. He received a Fulbright Fellowship to Italy in 1985-86, was a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar to India in 2004-5, and a Fulbright Scholar to Uzbekistan in 2019-20.
