Witness firsthand the rich heritage of Albania, Macedonia and Greece. Try your hand at traditional artisanal crafts in the bazaar of Kruja, Albania. Support the conservation training of Balkan students at the award-winning Regional Restoration Camps. Delve into history at Ottoman-era castles of Kruja, medieval churches of Ohrid, home of Saints Cyril and Methodius, stunning clifftop monasteries of Meteora, and the ancient tomb of Philip of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great.

Friday, May 18

Kruja, Albania Arrival at Tirana airport. Transportation from the airport to the hotel in Kruja is arranged by the organizers, according to flight times. Group welcome dinner

Saturday, May 19

Tirana + Kruja Morning Travel to Tirana (45 minutes) City tour – Visits to National Museum and House of Leaves Museum of Secret Surveillance Afternoon Additional visits Reception with local Fulbright alumni Travel back to Kruja

Sunday, May 20

Kruja All day (Service component) Registration and introduction to the Regional Restoration Camp in Kruja Following the program of the camp, including site visits of Kruja and introductory lectures on Kruja’s history

Monday, May 21

Kruja All day (Service component) Following the program of the camp, engaging in artisans’ workshops, trying out different crafts, weaving, crochet, felt works

Tuesday, May 22

Shkodra + Kruja Morning Travel to Shkodra (1.5 hours) Study tour in Shkodra, visit to Rozafa Castle Afternoon Free time in the city Travel back in Kruja

Thessaloniki Departure from Thessaloniki Organizers will arrange transportation to Thessaloniki airport. For any other departure arrangements, trip participants bear full individual responsibility.

What's Included

  • Double room accommodations in comfortable hotels (2 occupants per room). Single rooms are available for an additional $300
  • Breakfast daily
  • Seven group meals as indicated in the itinerary
  • Transportation by private, air-conditioned motor coach/minibus/van, as well as group transfers as appropriate
  • English speaking guide(s)/interpreter(s) to accompany participants through the whole tour period
  • Preparatory reading materials
  • Admission and fees to museums and program activities as listed in itinerary
  • Honoraria for speakers booked by CHwB
  • All tools, materials and craftspeople required for the service project/Regional Restoration Camp portion of the itinerary
  • In-country health insurance, not including airlift or emergency evacuation to the U.S.

What's Not Included

  • Flights to/from Albania or Kosovo
  • Expenses of a purely personal nature
  • Room service charges
  • Transportation of luggage in excess of weight allowance
  • Gratuities to the bellmen and waiters
  • Travel Cancellation Insurance
  • Gratuities for guides
  • Daily meals that are not organized for the group
  • Extra beverages at group meals
  • Visas or other entry documents
