February 2017 Insight Tour to Cuba

The Fulbright Association is thrilled to announce our 2017 Insight Tour to Cuba. This trip will introduce you to Cuba reality and provide many opportunities to interact with Cubans in meaningful and rewarding ways while learning about the island’s rich and dynamic history and the changes currently underway.

Itinerary

Day 1: Sunday February 5
1.30pm Arrival in Havana, welcome by AMISTUR Guide
Transfer to Hotel Nacional , check in
Dinner  at la Divina Pastora followed by Cañonazo Ceremony

Day 2: Monday, February 6

Breakfast at hotel
Visit to Alamar Urban Garden
Visit home of Ernest Hemingway
Lunch at Bodega las Brisas  restaurant, with a brief stop at the fishing village of Cojimar, setting for Old Man and the Sea
Pm tour for Old Havana visiting its main squares
Dinner on our own
Evening activities are on our own.
-Options include: evening at Tropicana Night Club or Buena Vista Social Club, with clear instructions for making reservations.

Day 3: Tuesday, February 7
Breakfast at the hotel
9.30am Presentation by an expert on Cuban art. (at hotel)
11.30am Guided Visit to the Bellas Artes/Fine Arts Museum to view the Cuba
Lunch on our own
3.00pm Visit the University of Havana with opportunity to talk with professors  about  study-abroad programs
5.00pm Return to the hotel
7.30pm Dinner included at Café del Oriente

Day 4: Wednesday, February 8
Breakfast at hotel
9.30am Meeting with Cuban economist from the University of Havana to discuss challenges ahead for Cuba.
11.30am Meeting with ICAP
1.30pm Lunch at la Torre with Gisela Arandia to interchange about afrocuban issues
3.30pm Visit The Revolution Museum
5.00pm Visit  San Jose Market,
-allowing participants to talk with small business owners and learn the microeconomics of how they conduct these businesses
Pm On the way to the hotel visit Plaza de la Revolucion
Dinner and evening on our own

Day 5: Thursday,  February 9
Breakfast at the hotel and check out
8.30am Depart for Cienfuegos, drive through city center upon arrival
Lunch
Walking tour with architect or expert on colonial history
Free time in city center
Afternoon visit rooftop of Valle Palace for cocktails
pm Continue to Trinidad visiting on the way the Botanical Garden
Check in at Finca Ma Dolores Hotel
Dinner at the hotel

Day 6: Friday , February 10
Breakfast at the hotel and check out
Morning enjoy a guided tour in Trinidad with a historian
12.30pm Lunch at Sabor Tropical, paladar, followed by free time to visit city market before returning to hotel in Cienfuegos
4.00pm Check in at Ancón Hotel
Dinner at the hotel
8.30pm Evening meeting with block organization, Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR)

Day 7: Saturday, February 11
Breakfast at the hotel and check out
9.00am Depart early for Santa Clara visiting on the way Valle de los Ingenios
1.30pm Lunch at los Caneyes
3.30pm Visit Che Monument
4.30pm Continue to Cayo Santa Maria, check in at Iberostar Ensenachos
Dinner at the hotel

Day 8: Sunday, February 12
Breakfast at the hotel
8.30am Depart for Remedios
10.30am Meeting with a specialist to learn about las Parradas de Remedio
Lunch
2.00pm Visit the Tradition House in Caibarien to learn about the history of the city
3.30pm Return to the hotel
Dinner at the hotel

Day 9: Monday, February 13
Breakfast at the hotel
Free morning
12.00pm Check out
3.00pm Leave for the airport at 6.30pm

Total price for tour package: $4,510.12

About the package: 

We are arranging the tour through Global Exchange. Each Fulbright member is permitted to bring one guest. Guests must register and apply in the same manner as the member unless the member is paying for the guest. If this is the case, then the member must indicate that there are 2 guests (the Fulbright member + 1 guest) if you are a non-Fulbright Association member only paying for yourself, then you are 1 guest.

What’s included:

The package includes accommodation in 4 and 5-star hotels, a round-trip flight to and from Miami into Havana, Cuba, visa processing fees, in-country transportation in an air-conditioned coach bus, an English-speaking tour guide, two meals per day and bottled water, entrance fees, and other materials.

Accommodation: National Hotel, Finca Ma Dolores, Ancon, Iberostar Ensenachos from February 10 -12

What isn’t included:

Please note that you will be responsible for arranging your own flights to and from Miami. Other things not included are: certain meals, snacks, shopping, tips, or other personal expenses. If you prefer a single hotel room as opposed to a double (shared) room, there will be an extra $750 fee.

Meeting:

The tour will depart from Miami International Airport. We encourage everyone to stay at Miami International Airport Hotel the night before to have dinner with the group (cost not included).
